Tamil Nadu: Cyclone Thane kills 3 in Cuddalore

New Delhi: Three people died in Cuddalore on Friday morning as the Cyclone devastated Thane area. The cyclone hit the coast of Tamil Nadu on Friday morning, bringing heavy rains to Chennai and Nagapattinam.

The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier said that the cyclone weakened, "a level of severe to very severe."

BP Yadav, Director, IMD, said: "The cyclone has weakened one notch from very severe to severe, the next 12 hours are very important then it will further weaken Heavy rains can in north Tamil Nadu continued, also in Kerala, however, are... the results were not serious.

The state government had declared holiday for educational institutions in coastal areas, including Chennai, Cuddalore and Tiruvarur on Friday.

The government said that it take measures in order to face the effects of the storm, made with special teams of officers to monitor the situation. PWD Secretary M Saikumar had a meeting yesterday and discussed measures to a "state of war" are taken to cope with the effects of the storm.

The market moves more than half a percent led by short covering. It was supported by all the index heavyweights like SBI, ICICI Bank, L & T, Infosys and Reliance Industries. The Sensex was increased by 87 points to 15 631 and the Nifty down 26 points to 4672.

Among banks and financial stocks, HDFC and ICICI Bank was up 1.4% each, SBI and HDFC Bank by 0.9% to 0.4%.

Technology stocks like Infosys, TCS and Wipro gained 0.4-0.9%. Index heavyweights Reliance Industries and ONGC were to amount to 0.4% and 1%.

To buy the shares of the nation's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors topped the list, rising 2%. Held Motor Corp and Maruti each by 0.7%.

Among other moves ITC, L & T and BHEL up 0.5% each. However, HUL fell, Bajaj Auto, JSPL and M & M 0.4-0.9%.

In the second line stocks, Network 18, Kwality Dairy, HMT, and DB Realty Polaris Tech 4 to 6.5%, while Shree Global fell, KSK Energy Ventures, a high reputation, Dewan Housing and Infotech Enterprises collected from 2.5 to 5 %.

In the smallcap space, STC India, Dredging Corp., jumped Hanung Toys, Kiri Industries and Petron Engg 6-12%. However, Sahara One, fell PG Electro Plast, Essel Propack, Bedmutha Industries and PFL Infotech 5-8%.

The market breadth remained positive, about 1391 shares advanced while 999 shares went on the BSE.

Most active shares on stock markets were Reliance Industries, SBI, L & T, Nestle, Gitanjali Gems, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.
