Faced with the impasse in Parliament on the decision on FDI in retail, the Congress Core Group on Wednesday discussed the issue but could not take any decision.
"No decision" an informed source said after the one-hour meeting held at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also attended by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Ministers, Pranab Mukherjee, A. K. Antony, P. Chidambaram and Congress General Secretary Ahmed Patel also attended the meeting.
Trade Minister, Anand Sharma, has also been called to explain the decision on allowing 51 percent FDI in retail on which the allies Trinamool Congress and DMK have strong objections while banning all opposition Akali Dal is opposite.
The meeting is understood to have discussed various options, including the acceptance of an adjournment debate on FDI that could end with a vote. In this case, efforts should be made to persuade the allies protest to oppose the motion to adjourn which would also be adequately mitigated in its criticism of the government.
From now on, the government sticks to its stand that the decision of FDI was not taken in haste and would benefit different sections, including farmers and consumers outside of several other benefits.
Both Houses of Parliament lay paralyzed for the seventh successive days without transaction of any business.
After the core group meeting, Mr. Mukherjee, who was the principal spoiler of the government, simply said, "We are trying our best to break the impasse in Parliament. But we are not the only party. We are willing to discuss problems. "
Speaking separately outside of Parliament, leader of the CPI Gurudas Dasgupta said that "the issue should be reviewed by the government. They remove the FDI decision and then we'll talk. "
Attack the government, Mr Dasgupta said, "what the government ... they would destroy the parliamentary system in India."
Squarely blame the government for the impasse in Parliament, CPI (M) Parliamentary Party leader Sitaram Yechury said, "Nobody came to us on the issue of FDI after the meeting of all parties. We are still received no response from the government after the meeting held yesterday. "
Insisting on the withdrawal of the decision, Mr. Yechury said: "Many political parties want to reduce FDI. There should be a discussion about this in the House after the cancellation, and after taking the sense of the House a new decision should be made on it, "he said.
He said that is a big mistake on the part of government that it would be able to stop the fall in value of the rupee by FDI.
